Mid-South
Greek Revival style mansions, North Rampart Street, built circa 1845-1850. H. C. Tibbitts photograph of perhaps 1915. Note how the second and third homes have been combined into one structure. Private collection.
Based in San Francisco, Howard Clinton Tibbitts, (1863-1937), worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad, recording the beauties of the 'Sunset Line' between New Orleans and San Francisco. His photographs appeared in the railroad's magazine 'Sunset.' Gritty photographs such as this were probably taken for his own interest. The columns were distorted by the curvature of the photographic paper. These fine homes have been destroyed.
