Image: Partial elevation of the Saint Louis Hotel just prior to demolition. This impressive Greek Revival style hotel was completed in 1841. Note the lantern and dome over the lobby rotunda just peaking over the roof cornice. This hotel must have been magnificent. Today it would be a treasured landmark. The photograph dates from the turn of the twentieth century, perhaps 1910. The demolition began in 1916, and continued on into 1917. Private collection.
